2009 was an exciting year for ARF of Rincon. It increased its spaying/neutering program to include 2 Dog Health Days and 1 Cat Health Day. It increased its advertising campaign as well. Did you know that 317 dogs and cats were spayed and neutered compared to 197 in 2008! And in 2010, ARF's aim is to spay/neuter 400 animals! Imagine all of this being done by this small organization. But it was a struggle. Remember that ARF is also a small organization. It's office is run by the administrator and the board consist of 3 members, all of whom are very active conducting business and events. That's why ARF needs your hand-on support. ARF changed its membership enrollment policy. Now, membership drives will be conducted evey January. The cost of membership is $15 for singles and $25 for adults. Applications can be obtained by clicking below on the PDF file "Membership Application" or by calling the office at 787-823-7167. Each member is encouraged to volunteer their talents and skills in special needs areas or during fundraising and community activies. This hands-on support helps ARF to focus its attention on its programs while volunteers work in groups managing special projects or events.
Did you know that volunteering to be a foster parent is also important? Right now, ARF does not have a separate fostering group where an animal taken off the street in Rincon can be given over to a person to temporarily take care of it. Right now, if someone contacts ARF that they rescued an animal from Rincon, that person is asked if they would be willing to temporarily take care of that animal while we work together to get it immunized, dewormed, spayed/neutered and find it a home. About 95 % of the time, the rescuer agrees and its a great feeling to know that that dog or kitten will eventually live in a permanent home. The sad part is when the rescuer will not/cannot foster. This is when it would be great to have a foster parent readily available. If this is something you would like to participate in, ARF wants to meet with you.
Our community is our life and the quality of care that we can provide to the abandoned animals found in our community and to the animal owners living in our community depends on the generosity of people working together to protect and nuture the animals of Rincon by supporting projects that benefit everyone.
