The majority of these dogs and cats are found abandoned, roaming the streets of Rincon. Some might be hit and run victims, others suffer ravaging insect infestations. Yet, a group of dedicated people opened their heart and home by fostering the animals, providing medical treatment, and patiently nursing them back to health. Many of these nondescript dogs and cats have recovered into healthy and appreciative animals that are now ready to be placed into permanent homes. For instance, the cute dog you see below is one of those success story! Below is a BEFORE and AFTER picture.
His story with ARF began when he was found a few years ago roaming the streets of Rincon with a severe skin infestation. He recovered following the rescue and arduous administration of a kind hearted foster mother, who named him Picasso since his infested body parts reminded her of a disoriented cubism painting. The BEFORE picture shows how he looked after being rescured from the streets and taken to a groomer! Evident is the skin disease that had eaten way his hair and left his delicate skin blistered and bloodied! After weeks of careful treatments, he was finally adopted by a family in Rincon where he evolved into this genteel-looking and happy dog shown in the AFTER picture.

Below are other dogs that were rescued from the streets of Rincon, were sickly but were nurtured and recuperated to be healthly, loving dogs. Read their stories and where they are now living happily with a family to call their own!

A Music Teacher and Her Family Adopt Bernard!
Bernard is a happy dog now living in Maine with with the Mathews family: a music teacher, her husband and their two daughters. Who would have thought that the hungry dog rescued in August 2008 from the streets of Rincon, Puerto Rico, would find such a wonderful home! Bernard and his sister were dumped in the streets. Unfortunately, his sister was hit by a car and passed away. Bernard was lucky. Now, Mrs. Mathews, the adoptive mother, recently wrote that Bernard is now weighting 26 pounds, continues to be a sweet, loving pet and is getting used to set boundaries. We all thank the Mathews family for their kind hearts! The ARF Volunteers send a heartfelt thank you to the family and a resounding good luck to Bernard.

Willow La Fara Finds a Home!
Willow La Fara Adopted
Willow La Fara was left to die at the Rincon Light House (El Faro).
A group of locals rescued her. She was in really bad shape. First came two weeks at the vets where they cleaned her up and she was given medication for all her health isuess. She was fixed and then fostered for two months by Sara and Bob. Willow La Fara was very lucky that one of the rescue parties had contact with the Boulder Colorado Humane Society who agreed to take her. Willow La Fara has been adopted. She was given as a birthday present to an 11 year old boy. We have received wonderful news about her progress in her new home. The Boulder Humane Socity did an excellent job in finding her a home, Willow La Fara was only at the shelter for three weeks. We cannot thank them enough. Thank you to the Willow La Fara's new family, who have informed us they will keep her name as Willow La Fara. Such a happy ending to what was a very sad beginning. She is such a special dog and we are all so happy for her.

Charlie found on the streets of Rincon adopted
(Charlie is the black and white dog, Daisy is also a rescued dog)
Charlie is adjusting to life in NJ. She shivered the first several months and even her dog coat didn't keep her warm. The vet thinks she was only about 10 months when we brought her home. She is still very much a puppy, lots of accidents in the house but slowly getting better. She loves to rip apart bags, jump on counters and knock things down. But overall she's pretty good. Charlie keeps Daisy on her toes, they love to play and wrestle in the yard.
From Rincon thank you Ejeanne and Maddy

Adopted Sato from Rincon Passed Test as a Working Dog
Dear ARF,
Isabela and I want you to know that we, as a working team, passed the Delta Society test "with flying colors" today. Isabela was fantastic!!!! They put us through "make believe" situations like in a crowded hallway, crazy lady with a shopping cart, Isabela going by a toy and not paying any attention to it, crazy person hugging her, person jumping in front of us.... just many possible situations we might encounter on our visits in hospitals, nursing homes etc. Isabela was incredible! All the three "dog ladies" who put us through the test were totally taken by Isabela, how beautiful she is and how calm and responsive she is to me. I am so proud of her; I had to let you know about it. We are on our way to be the "working team". Thank you again for saving her for us and many other people. She has been, and will be bringing joy to everyone she meets!!!
